Sciurus caroliniensis, known by the average joe as grey squirrels, are interesting woodland creatures and are known for their agility and wisdom. These salt-and-pepper colored animals can also be found within urban regions, particularly near oak, beech, and nut trees. They are also often spotted foraging in the ground and cloaking themselves in the thick green grasses.
The regular diet of a grey squirrel consists of nuts, seeds, berries, and occasional vegetation, which they consume particularly during the spring season. They are also known to eat bird eggs, nestling birds, and different kinds of insects. They are mostly active during the day and appear to be naturally shy when they feed. Grey squirrels and other rodents are best encouraged by providing them with food and shelter within a landscape in your area. All species of squirrels can also be encouraged by planting oak, hazel, and beech within the area. Not only do they eat the produce of these trees, but also use them as shelter and home.
